GEOG faculty, Dr. Yiqun Xie was invited to give a presentation on AI for climate to the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program in December at the Meridian International Center, Washington DC. This program is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Dr. Xie joined Katie Baynes, who leads the NASA Earth Data System to provide a broad view on AI related activities from NASA's Earth Science Division.

Dr. Xie presented on behalf of his group's projects funded by the NASA Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO). His talk focused on introducing the innovations they have made as part of their project funded by the NASA Advanced Information Systems Technology program, including AI methods that are spatially-smart and physically-smart for large scale Earth Science applications, as well as use case examples on how AI methods can be used to advance climate studies.
